Mother lived up to a ripe old age

August 20, 2010

It is not clear to me what makes one live up to a ripe old age.   Perhaps it’s  the lifestyle,  or the environment  or  may be genetic which I  hope I inherited  cos my mother  lived up to the ripe old age of 95. I was a menopause baby, as I was told.  Mother  grew old with no medical problems. She was strong till 93 and couldn’t be stopped from watering the plants or washing the dishes. Until  she lost her balance one day and fell on the floor.  She was alone that time and it took her sometime to get up from the fall.  Since then, mother  quickly lost her strength and eventually,  dementia took over her sense of perception.

Surfing the net just a while ago, I stumbled upon this one site which provides Medical Alert  to seniors.  The device is the only one offered with Fall Detection.  Wearing the device during any sudden fall will send alert.  Unlike other Medical Alert devices offered in the market,  the Brickhouse alert Home gives one complete protection 24/7 anywhere in the world.  Whether the senior wanders out of his own premise or accidentally falls while all alone, he is connected to a live help immediately.  How I wish we knew about this kind of Medical Alert back then.  Nevertheless,  we knew a lot of seniors who’d probably need this and best that we inform them about this helpful device.

…Like crazy!

August 16, 2010

The sun is out welcoming another brand new day.   Today is another  wonderful blessing!   It looks like it’s gonna be another typical day.  But no!  I wanna see some changes.  ..even just for today!  Enough of the voluminous household chores.  I wish to be brought out tonight although it’s not gimik night (though for some, it always is)  just for a change!   I truly miss listening to the music played by live bands.  I miss going out with husband. I miss eating out with him.  I miss a lot of things  actually,   … like crazy!

Scrubs

August 12, 2010

I was in a hospital a week ago for the annual sked of my medical work-up.  I’ve been going  through all the necessary medical scrutinies simply because I was diagnosed with a dreaded disease.  Fortunately, the shocking diagnosis is now water under the bridge. Thank God!  After more than 17 years of getting normal and good  results, my Oncologist has declared I am relatively safe and free from the monster disease.  But hey, it’s not what I wanna highlight on this post!

You see, through all the years that I got to visit hospitals,  I have noticed the evolution of the many types of medical uniforms.  From what used to be stiff  but delicate whites worn by nurses, they now sport a more comfortable nursing scrubs.  The lab technicians that used to wear all white lab coats are now often seen in a more relaxing color of tops and bottoms.  Suffice it to say that hospital uniforms  have really gone a long long way.

For these kind of needs, blueskyscrubs can be very well depended upon.  With only a collection of scrub hats that started years ago, it has developed into one that eventually uplifted the sense of medical style, which probably has a direct or indirect influence on the current style of medical scrubs and nursing uniforms I now see in hopitals.  I might as well mention one important thing too.   ..that they offer free shipping for purchases of $155. and above.   For those medical staff out there, ain’t it the right time to grab some of those new fashionable medical uniforms from blueskyscrubs.com?

Can’t help but wonder.  Could those striking fashionable uniforms I see in the hospitals that I regularly go to be supplied by blueskyscrubs.com? That, I have yet to know!

Nephew and Family to Visit North Carolina

August 10, 2010

Since my nephew took along with him his family to Seattle, Washington more than a month ago, we only communicate through the net. I’m glad that his wife is steadily adjusting to their new environment. And the kids I’ve learned, have been tremendously enjoying the totally fresh new surroundings. Nephew has only few more years to stay with the Navy ‘cos he opts to retire young and productive. Their family here at home are already looking forward to that moment when we could have them hang around us once again, especially the kids. However, I surmised, it’s not gonna happen soon as we expect it. We were told that they plan to extend their stay but would transfer/visit to North Carolina after their stint in Seattle. What made him change his plan?

His best friend who is based on that East side State is convincing him to try extend their stay after he retires and persuades him to make it to North Carolina as it is one beautiful place to live in. I feel he is giving it some considerations as he has expressed so. Apart from the special bond he has with his best friend, he apparently wish to bring his family to his friends place and tour around. North Carolina he was told has too many picturesque parks and is near the beach. That alone, I supposed has won him over. This early, he must start to survey for Apartment in Durham, NC. For sure, hiis friend knows too many Apartmens in North Carolina being a resident of Durham for many years now or he could just surf online and visit nc-apartments.com. I’ve Googled for North Carolina, and after knowing how peaceful and magnificent the place is, I’m not surprised why he is considering bringing his family there.

The ref made it

June 26, 2010

In my previous post, I have mentioned contemplating on which one to buy first,  a bigger ref or an LCD HD TV.  I seriously want to have both but hubby agreed only on one, the ref!    Alright then, can’t disagree any further cos he’s the one in charge!.  The new bigger ref made it home and the LCD TV has to wait.  But the thing is, when I desire something, I couldn’t sleep till I acquire the ever coveted thing.  I just wonder how long I will lost sleep over this. Oh, I remember I only need few more bucks in my paypal account to cover the price.  I can see, it’s almost at hands reach… no need to ask for my boss’ permission.  I just have to patiently wait.  Uh - oh..  paging blog advertisers!…

Now, I’m contemplating on which one to buy first?  Ini mini mynimo …

Well.. let’s see which one will get to be delivered one of these days… I hope both!  ha ha..

Busy Days

May 20, 2010

It’s already a month but still no shadow of house maid around.  That makes 24 hours too short to finish my daily household chores.  Today, I thought I could start loading the laundry but the super hot weather pushed me out to the aircon repair shop plus the few houseflies in the kitchen forced me to get those screen windows and door be seen by the repair man. If only those construction workers took care of them while they do their jobs those screens would still be in good condition now.  I’m having tough time which one to work on first.  Should it be my li’l flower box, the li’l garden set space to rid of messy stuff or the clearing off of the chaotic mess in the garage. ie, piles of useless woods, metals and paints and a hill of unused sand and hollow blocks outside the gate. I have the whole house to attend to but I also have a not so energetic body.  I frequently feel gasping for breath but I only have to ignore or nothing will ever be accomplished.

It’s quite embarassing to think that already weeks had passed, yet the supposedly newly renovated house has\n’t seen it’s fine finish yet. I mean the actual interior arrangement.  But I’m trying my best to see everything in the proper places.  Slowly but surely. Anyone ready to help?

She’s Another Year Older Today On Her Granny’s Death Anniv

April 29, 2010

Being too occupied with so many tasks,  it almost slipped my mind that it’s 29th of April today.  RAQUEL, my niece by my big brother (+) is celebrating her birthday today which is also the death anniversary of her Grandma, (my mother),   Raquel is presently based in San Diego, California and Tahoe, Nevada.  I’ve heard she’s too busy with her graduate studies as she’s about to graduate this coming semester (the reason why we don’t disturb her).  I’m sure, she’ll gonna have a great celebration with her and Matt’s group of friends or is she spending her day again in another European tour just like last year?!!

Happy Birthday, RAQUEL!

May you forever be blessed with all your heart’s desires!

We miss you!

Summer Fun

April 12, 2010

Tired of the intense heat of summer? Come and  frolic in the cool waters of the river.  This photo was taken in the town of Nagcarlan, Laguna when we visited the place a couple of summers ago.  The crystal clear water is truly irresistible especially if you are an aqua-holic like me

From Trade Show to Birthday Party

April 9, 2010

It was my friend’s birthday yesterday. As in the previous years, she’s holding a birthday party and the whole gang is again invited.  It will be held tomorrow night at the village’s little park and I have seen her son and nephew fixing the place for tomorrow’s occasion.  A big tent and canopy are now at bay waiting to be assembled.  She’s fortunate that her hubby’s office just wrapped up from a trade show of digital electronics, hence the timely availability of those tents and logo canopy.

Incidentally, we’ve been to that trade show as we were canvassing for an affordable laptop for my son.  I already saw the mentioned company’s logo canopy from the entrance and it was an eye catcher with it’s bold prints.  The trade fair, I noticed,  got a unique trade show flooring which I think is better than the trade show carpet I saw from another trade expo event.  It’s like an advertising board and interior décor rolled into one.   The trade fair’s interior arrangements would have been more complete if only they placed logo mats at the entrance of the fair.  It could have been another simple but effective advertising per se.

Anyhow, I’m looking forward to another merry moment with the other couples of the gang.  And we will certainly be safe covered by the tents from his hubby’s company.

Home Loan Modification

April 7, 2010

Our house remodeling is not over yet.  It’s likely that it would take another few weeks more before the entire work is completely done.  Anyway, it isn’t much of a problem for me actually, compared to my neighbor who is now trying to get Home Loan modification for her housing loan arrears in the bank.  It’s depressing to think that their house is facing foreclosure in the near future if she won’t take proper action. Nonetheless, getting Loan modification isn’t difficult at all. She just have to deal with proper bank authority.

On the contrary, I feel so blessed having settled our housing loan in ten years time as against the actual 25 year loan term that we signed for.  Time flies swiftly and we just learned way back in the 90’s that we’re already done with our housing loan payments.  It was an awesome feeling getting rid of a huge obligation,

Chaos all around

March 8, 2010

I have mentioned in my other blog that I am currently busy with the repair and reconstruction of our house.  I have to look after the workers as well as the procurement of materials.  Hubby can not perform the job coz he’s always in the office so I am left with no choice but to take charge.  It’s kinda difficult for me sometimes coz I have to climb up to the top of the house to see the development of the project.  Nonetheless, I’m doing fine so far.

A while ago in my little space I call veranda, I requested a worker to stock up the construction materials properly coz it makes me dizzy to see chaos.  I requested him to move the few flowering plants pots near the sidewalk to give way for the pile of materials that’s coming in.  The Parrot Cage that is hanging by the veranda is taken down to avoid being hit by big wooden trusses that might accidentally fall.  I sincerely don’t want to dispose it yet coz I still plan to replace my pet parrot that died a year ago. I’m just waiting for the place to be fixed before I buy another one.  A neighbor of mine saw the Parrot Cage dumped on one corner and asked for it.  I politely begged-off explaining that there are another birds coming.  I doubt if he believes me.  If he doesn’t, well, he will in the near future coz he’d certainly see my parrot cage on our tiny  veranda again with a colorful talkative parrot in it.

For now, let the chaos around here conceal my plan.  The plan to have a new pet parrot!

Japanese Car Recall

March 5, 2010

With the cars that we had before, which includes a locally manufactured AUV, an Isuzu Gemini, a Toyota Corolla, and a Toyota Innova, we are quite lucky that not any  of those had brought trouble on the road.  Well, I must admit, that the Isuzu Gemini was a crank.  Having it acquired from a second owner probably explains why.  But over all, each one served well.  Unlike some of the new cars now which has manufacturer’s defect that causes serious road accidents.

Have you heard of the news regarding a popular car company recalling some 3.8 million of their vehicles that have already been sold in the market?  It has been established that the cars have latent defect to cause road mishaps.  One reason pointed out is the possibility of car floor mats sticking to the gas pedal in the open position.  This actually causes one of its sold cars to crash.  The accident happened in San Diego, California.  The popular car company is supposed to be known for good quality cars.  It is quite surprising how they overlooked simple defects.  Could it be that its quality control is of out of control?  Let’s hope not.

So far, I’m not sure if we will still patronize cars from the popular Japanese car company though I have truly loved our last car from them.

Online slot machine

March 4, 2010

Many years ago, hubby used to frequent the Casino located along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.  Sometimes, I would come along with him and observe how games are played. At times, he would give me a few thousand pesos to play with while he played the baccarat.  After getting the money I would go to the slot machines and watch discreetly how the machine is being played.  I could see how easy it is to use but I preferred playing the Big and small.  But that was long time ago.  It was yet the time when online casinos are not heard yet.

Today, one could find scores of online casinos.  It’s easier to visit and games are uncomplicated.  There are various casino games that could be played online but slot machine rvm is much effortless to play.  You may think that slot machines are all the same but it’s not.  Lately, the most sought after slot machine rvm is the so called multi line slots.  This game improves your chances of winning coz you are able to play more than one game at a time.  With online casinos mushrooming in the internet, it is very easy now to enjoy playing the slot machine rvm and at the same time getting to win big cash.

Hijacking with a twist

March 2, 2010

I have heard on one late night news about a hijacking incident that took place in Atimonan, Quezon one noontime in January of this year.  A truck loaded with copra was flagged down by three armed men then blindfolded and hogtied the driver and his helper.  Such incident rang a bell to my ear.  Few decades ago when I was still working with a Customs Brokerage Company, this likewise happened (but with a little twist) to one of the company’s trucks that was transporting the same commodity, copra.  The truck was reported to the office by the driver to have been hijacked somewhere in the province of Quezon.  However, as the police began the investigation, it turned out that there was no hijacking that took place.  A witness admitted participation in the supposedly hijacking and pointed at the driver as the mastermind.  The goods were recovered in a barrio in Laguna and the truck was later traced in Cavite.  The driver and his four accomplices were later convicted and jailed for 12 to 16 years in prison.

It was evidently the age when GPS Tracking wasn’t given much importance yet by the business group especially my bosses.  If only the company have thought of making use of a GPS Tracking device, such kind of troublesome incident could have been avoided.  Today, GPS Tracking is a common word not only in the business world but with the private individuals as well.

Shopping wisely

March 1, 2010

The big Mall in our area held a Mallwide Sale this past weekend.  I came around early on the first day of the 3 Day Sale to get ahead of the crowd but I was surprised to find scores of shoppers already on their quest for the best deals.  I couldn’t help but go gaga by the countless rock bottom prices of high end make-up items.  There were marvelous good deals but I had to choose what is really needed or I’d end up not saving but wasting instead.  I just picked a few basic items such as lipstick, pressed powder and blush-on for myself then spent the rest of my time searching for the suitable T-shirts for hubby  It was not an easy feat to find husband the right t-shirts.  He only cares for the kind that has the essential pocket on and is very particular with the design and color.  Likewise, I am well aware of the fact that it should not be very common or he won’t dare wear it at all if ever.  He leaves the meticulous choosing on me coz as he has said, he trusts my taste when it comes to his attire.  I was glad I found good quality T-shirts with good discounts off the tag among his favorite brand but only after a tremendous digging and hunting.

If squeezing in yourselves on crowded shopping places isn’t your cup of tea, I suggest you go shopping online.  You can also get good deals just like what you’ll get on Mallwide Sale but without the hassles of the dizzy causing crowd,   With online coupons this is possible!  Interested? Go click now and start garnering big discounts on any item of any brand of your choice.

I’m a Chinese Food Lover

February 27, 2010

Glorietta and Greenbelt are stylish shopping centers in Makati City, Metro Manila, I am always lured to skip the nearby SM Mall in our place and even endure the strenuous travel from far north to south just to get to this posh shopping places.   Anyway, the MRT ride makes it a little easier to commute but only if the rush hour is avoided.  I therefore make it a point that my time in the mall would coincide with hubby’s time out from work so I could ride with him going home and elude the heavy flow of commuters.

The last time I roamed the place, I got too involved with the sale that was going on around and the last thing I knew, hubby was ready to pick me up.  I was stressed a bit coz I didn’t want him to wait for me that long.  I was glad he brought me to North Park Noodle House,  the one eating place I love in Makati Ave.  This is a Chinese Resto   that serves authentic Chinese dimsum, noodles and other cuisines.  The food is delightful yet affordable with matching on the house tea..  Their place is comfy as well.

Here’s what we ordered:

Roast Duck Rice Toppings for me.

Steamed Fish Rice Toppings  for hubby.

I can not deny it!  I’m a great lover of Chinese food.   How about you?

Feelin’ the summer heat

February 22, 2010

After the ravaging floods and typhoons few months ago, the summer heat in turn, is now casting its own peculiar wrath on the northern part of the country.   Many farmers are now miserably awaiting the miraculous rain to descend but it looks like Mother Nature is pretty nuts on giving in to the farmers wishes.  Apparently, the Department of Agriculture has resorted to cloud seeding to artificially create at least some needed rain in the north.  It’s been forecasted that the El Nino phenomena will be up until five more months or so.

Honestly, if not for the farmers and their crops that primarily get the sting, I would love summer to stay for long.  Summer means more sunshine and sunshine means smile!  Well, some of you may not agree with me but that’s how I look at it.  It is bright sunny days, beach and parasols.  And how I truly love summer!
