Father’s Savings Deposit

April 30, 2009

It was one of those ordinary days with my parents who were living on their own since all of us their children have already our own family.  Mother was sewing by hand at the living room and father was eating at the dining table.  Father kept staring at mother which annoyed the latter when she noticed that his eyes were focused on her.  “Why do you look at me that way? Is there something wrong with my face?”  Mother asked.  “Nothing, I just noticed you’re still lovely despite the old age.!” Was father’s reply. Mother said it pleased her but she didn’t show it and acted irritated instead. Not knowing it was father’s way of saying goodbye. She continued sewing and after a while, father dropped to the floor, unconscious.

He was rushed to hospital and was in comatose for days. He was diagnosed with brain hemmorage. While in the hospital, bills piled up and prescription medicines were needed to be bought.    Mother instructed me to withdrew the money from father’s Savings Accounts.  I obligingly obeyed and talked to the bank’s Manager.  I explained the predicament but unfortunately, the bank officer didn’t allow the withdrawal. I begged and further explained father’s situation. He asked me to come back after two days.  However, father was gone the following day.  I came back to the bank manager and he smilingly told me that the money in father’s Savings Accounts are ready for withdrawal.  And teary eyed I informed him then, “it will now be used not for medicines but for funeral.” And he was sorry.

It’s Raquel’ s Day Today

April 29, 2009

It’s my niece Raquel’s birthday today!  She’s turning 50 years old.  Ha ha ha!!  … joke , joke, joke!( I think she’s in her early forty’s.) Sorry for the disclosure.  He he..  Years are added to her age but they certainly don’t show on her face and figure.  She’s one lady full of talents that I wonder where she inherited all of them.  She’s actually a Jane of All Trades coz she’s good at almost anything.  This, is not surprising anyway, coz she was a consistent honor student from Prep School in Sta Mesa Catholic School to high school in Phil. College of Commere Lab. High School to college  in University of Sto. Tomas.  And until now, I’ve heard she’s still doing great in her Graduate Studies she’s now finishing in University of California- San Diego.  She’s happily married for twenty years now to her former boss who is a successful Business Man.   I’m mentioning all these because I’m so happy for her, for what she has achieved in this stage of her life.
Again, Jay, HAPPY  BIRTHDAY !!!

Home Improvements

April 26, 2009

As I’ve been mentioning every now and then, our house has been renovated more than a decade ago.  The renovations done have somehow lost it’s color and exquisiteness.  Some of the shiny tiles have already been broken and the kitchen fixtures are already falling to pieces. With the supposedly house remodeling that we have planned, I would want to include a more modern but sturdy fixtures. I’d have it arranged by a professional Interior Decorator if only to get the best possible modern but cozy effect of a home.  And probably take some tips too from a Home Improvement Blog that I just visited a while ago. This blog offers a lot of good ideas for home improvements which I am sure have helped a lot of folks who are  interested on home improvements.

Blood Compact Site

Here’s another photo taken during our trip to Bohol. This is one historical site believed to be the site of the Blood Compact, the pact of friendship where Legazpi and Sikatuna cut their arms and united their blood as one. The sign of friendship between Boholanos and Spaniards.

She Needs New Room

I have mentioned before in my other posts that daughter is long asking to have a room with better ventilation. We’re about to give in to her request. However, this would only be possible if we will make some remodeling on our present house. Probably, adding a second floor and get the needed room there. I have actually talked to a remodeling contractor but sadly though, hubby aborted the plan.  He had qualms on the kind of the remodeling contractor I was dealing with. He alleged their reliability is doubtful. Daughter was quite devastated. She was already looking at the house plan with much hope of having the room soon.

I was surfing the net and accidentally came across Durham Remodeling.  Looks like they are the kind hubby is looking for. They specialize in Custom Homes, Additions (like the one we need), Remodeling and Renovations, Decks and Screen Porches and Garages. In their line of service, they are not only focused on the construction matters per se, but in other phases of it as well, like how to get the needed construction requirements or where to get the funding if ever. I wish I could take advantage of their services.  If only we belong to the same demographical location, I would have done so. But you can’t tell where our fates bring us, huh?!

Sunset on the wing

Fascinated by sunsets, I asked daughter to take photos of it.  That was when we were aboard the plane coming from Cebu years ago.  This is one of her beautiful shots which she took minute after minute till we reached the NAIA Centennial Airport.

Debt Consolidation

April 25, 2009

On times of financial crisis, it is no longer surprising if one gets to be entangled in a web of debts.  Even if one is a smart debtor, there could be a time when he can not avoid getting helpless as he is being pushed further by the unfortunate unmanageable debt situation.

In this aspect, one can look for a way that could alleviate him from further financial damage.  One of them is the debt consolidation loans wherein all the debts are taken and consolidating them into one payment.  One can do this by utilizing his home equity or enter into an easier repayment scheme.

So maybe, if you happened to be in such a tight situation, don’t be tormented. Get in touch with DebtConsolidation’com and be worry free.

Something in common

We toured Cebu a couple of years ago and we made sure that we get to visit Magellan’s Cross before we island hopped to Bohol.  We were frustrated though to see the site not in its normal state.  Scaffoldings were all around as it was being repaired to avoid further dilapidation.  And last December, as if someone amongst us has a ”balat” (birth mark) in the ass,  scaffoldings were again featured this time in Cagsawa Ruins.  Lady Luck seems to be in hiding on those travels of ours.

Fixing a Messy Wardrobe

The last time I disposed off old clothes was when I cleared our wardrobe cabinets of outdoor gears and clothing which were no longer in use. I thought I’d do it again. The cabinet has been a complete mess for quite a while coz hubby would carelessly pulled one item after another then try to bring it back but in a hasty manner that topples everything inside.  The other day, before my angel went on vacation, I asked for her help to clear off the cabinet and clean it at the same time.  That cabinet was spick and span after the cleaning and deodorizing.  The clothes are all very orderly, fresh and clean. I only wish it will always be that way.

Creamy Penne

Today, I prepared creamy Penne.  It should have been baked but our turbo broiler won’t come to work so it was left as is with out being baked at all.  This is very ordinary but kinda special for the people here coz I don’t prepare it so often. They enjoyed the creamy snack anyway, and  it  was my reward.

Here’s how I did it.

Ingredients:

    500 gram     penne past
200 gram    sliced button mushroom in can
    500 gram     ground beef
3 foil pack   tomato sauce @200 gram
      1 bottle       catsup
      1 big can      nestle crea
      2  big        white onions
      5 cloves      big garlic
        drops of olive oil
        pinch       salt
        dash        sugar
      1 small box   cheddar cheese
                    freshly ground black pepper

Procedure:

Saute garlic and onions in olive oil.  Put the ground beef.  Sprinkle with salt. Simmer until the ground beef are thoroughly cooked. Then pour the tomato sauce and catsup. Mixed the sliced button mushroom and sprinkle ground black pepper.

Blend Nestle cream and the cheddar cheese.  Simmer for few minutes and pour over cooked penne pasta placed in a baking pan. Top with grated cheese and bake.

(But this one as mentioned wasn’t baked). Serve hot with garlic bread or garlic pandesal

Pool Cue or Bowling Ball

April 24, 2009

Years ago, homeowners from our village have formed groups to compete with each other in the bowling tournament the village homeowner association officers have created.  It was a tournament that started in duckpin then eventually, we grew tired of the small bowling balls and turned to ten pin bowling.  Bowling is supposedly a quiet competition but ours was a tournament filled with boisterous and annoying cheers. It was not a serious competition though, that’s why players are like kids in a playground. I stil remember, when some would even play billiards while waiting for their turn to play bowling. These billiard cum bowling players would even forget what he is supposed to be holding, a pool cue  or a bowling ball.  Fun to think how one of the players mocked another when the ball thrown went rolling down the canal of the bowling alley.  It was really hilarious with the comical acts of some players who are natural comedians.  With every games won, there was a corresponding Pizza from the losing team. And modesty aside, we were always full with pizzas. (Lol!)

I miss those tournaments now.  Those games have led all of us to bond together and form a closer friendship.  Every birthdays are celebrated with everyone around, there were countless out of town travels, one of which is the Baguio trip done in long convoys of cars.  A lot more happy moments were enjoyed together which were initiated by the  tournament.

Another travel plan

To drive M-i-l to Quezon,Isabela and then go to Penablanca, Cagayan for a quick visit to their relatives and mine too, ( thru affinity). On hearing the word Cagayan, I can only think of its beautiful tourist spot, the Callao Caves and of course, the clear waters of the river of Cagayan.  We’ve been there many times before, yet the place still tickles my fancy. I’d come along of course and this time I’d try to climb the steep stairways to the mountain caves and await for the swarm of bats at dusk. With God’s blessings , this plan will push through on Friday, May 1st.

World of Warcraft Games

On a typical weekend, I wake up in the morning with the sight of my husband sipping coffee in front of his laptop—checking sites and updating his own.  The other day, I found him playing solitaire (which, according to him is not an ordinary solitaire, but it’s a “spider” solitaire.)  I asked him why he likes playing it and if he has already tried the online games our children have been addicted to.  Of course, his answer is barely surprising—he has been accustomed to the simple card game on the computer and that he does not think he has time to try, even once, to play online games.

A barely surprising answer, I mentioned.  Because for busy people like us, online gaming is one thing we don’t think we have the time and patience for.  A day would never be enough just for writing blogs and preparing meals, let alone establishing an account on online games and spending time playing it. However, my daughter, who has been mentioning and introducing World of Warcraft to us, just told me that if people like me would really like to play, patience and time would not be that much needed to have a good account to have as your online character.  She said she’s actually already considering buying one from those who sell wow account. She just learned you can buy an account that is an advanced character.  Who would not like to start with an established character?  But then again, I think I would still enjoy my hubby’s spider solitaire until I further understand how online games really work, and who knows, maybe I can then ask my daughter to buy me my own account?  We’ll see.

Wanting to go out . . .

But I can’t.  There are quite a number of reasons why I’m currently immobile.  My close friends has been calling many times asking me if I’d like to go out with them.  I explained why I can’t but they can’t accept my reason.  They advised that I should be fair to myself. And I reflect.

Puzzled?  Let be!

Kick off the Heat

April 23, 2009

It is summer and anything that could alleviate heat is always a welcome treat.  There was some rain pouring last night but that didn’t seem to lessen the discomfort of the warm summer night.  Sadly, our air-conditioning unit broke down along with some of our electric fans.  We were about to buy new electric fan last Sunday but I thought of bringing the old, broken ones to the repair shop first.  We had them checked if they were still repairable so as to save a few bucks at least. And they were! The repair was quick and easy and I can’t believe that we would have an additional three electric fans more.  As for the out-of-order air-conditioning unit that we have, I already called for an Air-conditioning specialist that would look into the problem.  I wonder if he’s a HVAC Contractor coz we also need to know things about HVAC for much needed ventilation in daughter’s room.  Daughter has long been requesting that we add another room which has more ventilation, probably on a second floor.  But it is not that easy for now. I’ll admit I’m toying on the idea but hubby is quite adamant on my plans.  Whatever is his reason, we’ll just hang on till he gives his go signal.

For now, the unexpectedly repairable electric fans are very much welcomed!

Popcorn Popper

I’m not feeling well since last night.  In fact I was feeling hot with fever, shivering and feeling so cold despite hubby sweating a lot.  I turned off the electric fan that forced hubby to walk out of our room and look for one comfortable place to sleep off the night, with an electric fan beside him.  I found him on the sofa in the living room this morning.  I’m still not feeling so well even after taking paracetamols. But I saw my Mother-in-law looking so bored.   I remember to take out the popcorn popper my niece sent me years ago and made some popcorn to while her time away.  This popcorn popper is so easy to operate and pops popcorn so quickly.  M-i-l looks quite satisfied munching while watching TV. Boredom seems gone.

I wanna go to Boracay!

Boracay Photo

Fine white sands, clear blue water and picturesque environment,  that’s what makes Boracay!  I’m dreaming to be there this summer and I just hope hubby would give in to this wish of mine.  I’d definitely be the happiest if this wish would turn to reality!
