Son was Sick
September 27, 2008
I was off line for quite a while. I didn’t have time for my laptop and my blog. Son was having high fever that wouldn’t subside to paracetamol but kept getting high despite the tablets. I brought him to the ER of NKTI (National Kidney and Transplant Institute) for immediate check up and was advised to be confined for further observation. He underwent X-ray, ECG, Urinalysis, Whole abdomen ultrasound, and many other simple lab tests. The results? All were normal! It’s so frustrating sometimes that you were expecting to be informed of the doctor’s findings for that high fever but couldn’t get what you want. He was bombarded by high priced antibiotics for the entire three days that we have stayed in the hospital until that high fever finally gave in. Fever was gone not knowing the real reason behind. Doctor just said it could be an upper respiratory tract infection, something in his throat. Well… it could be, or it might be or his words beginning with perhaps, they all irritated me. Anyway, son was well so I asked to be discharged soon after almost three days of confinement in a beautiful private room complete with telephone, cabled TV and ref. Opps, don’t think I chose it. It’s just that there are no cheaper rooms available that time. Unfortunately, he’s no longer covered by his father’s health card in his office. So we got no choice but to foot that soaring high hospital bill. Wahhh… that bill could have bought me a package tour to Bangkok with some extra pocket money! Nah, on the other hand, I am thankful indeed that son is well now!!

how is wiji doing now? Perhaps paracetamol doesn’t work for him anymore. I remember when I was young, I got sick and was taking Biogesic (also paracetamol). It stopped working and my fever did not subside. They switched it to a different analgesic. Jon also developed an allergic reaction to some analgesic. I think he couldn’t take motrin (ibuprofen) for some time and was told to take only aspirin or he’d break out (really bad red marks that could have gotten into his lungs).
Hope wiji is feeling better. Only 43 days to Grande so he better stay well.
make sure you feed him yogurt if he is taking lots of antibiotics. it will boost his immune system and help replenish the necessary ‘bacteria’ in his body killed by the medication.

Hi Ate Beng…
So that’s why you were MIA for a while. I’m glad your son is doing well now but it would have been better if the doctors were able to tell you why he had high temps for a few days. You would think they would be able to tell you some better diagnosis considering you had to pay a small fortune for that 3 day stay.
Anyway, hope your weekend is going great now that your son is back home with you. I am not thrilled about hospitals myself…
