Ina’s Death Anniversary

April 29, 2008

It was April 29 when Ina (my mother) passed away.  She died at the very ripe age of 95.  I remember her saying “sobra na naibayad sa akin, dapat magbigay na ako ng sukli.”  Meaning, she has been overpaid (with long life) and she needed to return a change. Whatever she meant, am still reflecting on it.

Way back in 1990, when Ama (my father) died, she had been preparing for her demise since. She requested Raquel, her favorite granddaughter, to buy her her “funeral” attire.  Initially, the "Apo" refused.  But after countless reiterations, she gave in.  She bought her a quality gown made of jusi material.  She was able to use it in fave Apo’s wedding, after which it got so dark from being stocked-up for a long time.  I wonder if she was looking for it at the time she expected to wear it.   Incidentally, she went to her next life on the day so significant for her fave Apo. It was her birthday.

Anyways, I have spent almost whole of my life with Ina on my side.  From the time I began to pick my memory til the time she lost hers.  Ina is a strong willed woman, very unlike me. She would say what she needed to say, be it offensive or not. Like any other mother, she’s not perfect. But she’s indeed, a loving and caring mother,

It’s Raquel’s Day!

Today is Tuesday, April 29 and I won’t forget that it’s Raquel’s birthday.  She’s my  multi- talented niece who’s based in San Diego, California and Tahoe, Nevada. She’s a graduate of Industrial Management Engineering in UST and currently working on her masteral degree in San Diego State University.  Married for 18 years to Dr. Matts Nilson, a very serious  businessman.

I supposed, they are now on their flight to Athens, Greece and are about to land there any time today.  I understand the said trip is Matt’s birthday present for her.  This couple has traveled to almost every country in the world and I guess, there are just few countries left for them to see.

To Jay, (that’s how we fondly call her), all I can do is to pray that you may continually enjoy all the wonderful things God has sent you.  That includes Matt on top of all your blessings.  May you be forever happy and contented and most of all, an excellent health all throughout.

              Happy Birthday, Jay!

                                                                              We love you!

Quick Cash

April 24, 2008

I am so pleased that my daughter, Janina has landed a new job. She is now training for a Technical Support Agent for a leading Call Center Company.  I can see her enthusiasm for the training she presently undergoes and looks like she’s enjoying the fact that she is amongst the corporate crowd of Makati Business Center even it’s only for a few weeks.  Afterwhich, she would be permanently stationed in Commonwealth, Quezon City.  Janina is a typical young lady that dresses up appropriately, if I may say so. That goes to say that she’s compelling herself to dress up as suitably as she can on what is called for.Nevertheless, it brings her to some point of a dilemma. She is running out of suitable dresses to wear day in and day out. Since she has yet to receive her first salary on the end of the month, she’s asking her father to lend her money until her payday comes. That’s asking for a loan in short, to be paid on payday. The situation is very common for people who are employed on a monthly or bi-monthly salary basis. She is considerably fortunate to have someone to turn to for immediate financial needs.  For those who are in the same tight spot that she’s in, and nobody to turn to, there is always a payday cash loans available anytime.  No hassle, as long as you are employed and your salary is coursed to your current account. This is made possible by ePayday.co.uk.  It is a payday loan service that caters across Britain. You’ll be surprised to see that it is so easy to get a quick payday cash loan.  Try them out and you will absolutely agree.

Young love.

April 23, 2008

What?!  The topic is about Love?  Oh yes, sweetie lovie dovie! But not exactly.  I just want to go back to my youthful self when chocolates and roses are aplenty. And RCPI Lovegrams are piling up my little shoe box of souvenirs and mementos. I want to forever remember the one valentine day when I carried a number of plastic boxes of roses in my two arms.  They came from male friends.  “Ang haba talaga ng hair ko” that time (I have picked up that expression from my daughter). Those were the days my friend, and thought it would never end.  Hmnn, ain’t that a line of a Beatles song? But kidding aside, my youthful days were worth reminiscing. It was all fun time especially those spent with my ex-boyfriend. Yes, my ex-boyfriend because he’s now my husband since 27years ago. As I am now on my 3pm or 4pm stage of life, I sometimes look back to those happy young days and I smile. What a beautiful life it had been and still is right now. God has been so good!

Plastic Money

It is a system of payment named after the small plastic card issued to the users of the system.  This is partly, the definition given by Wikipedia to Credit Card.  My own definition of it is, it is an instrument to easy shopping.  It gives effortless access to acquire the things you want to have even while cash is not available at the moment. There are a lot of advantages a credit card offers.  That is why I found it quite difficult to refuse when I was offered one by bank personnel many years ago.  I have heard a few complaints regarding this so called Plastic Money.  But I guess, the problem lies not with the Credit Card itself but in the manner of how it is being handled. The Credit Cards I own have increased in number.  Yet, I have never been in a tight spot resulting from their uses.  For the working and employed community, I would highly recommend obtaining at least two Credit Cards.  It sure makes a shoppaholic’s life much easier.

There are many credit card offers too choose from.  They are categorized accordingly. It is all a matter of good preferences.  It is so easy to apply online. Visit the site now and see for yourself.

On Loans and Mortgages

April 22, 2008

I was walking down a shopping mall three days ago when a middle aged lady approached me and handed me a brochure. It was about a Subdivision being developed in the northern part of Quezon City.  Since I heard my sister-in-law’s interest in acquiring a house and lot here in the Philippines, I thought it’s very timely. The subdivision being developed is in the northern part of Quezon City, will took about one to two hours trip from the business centers.  The house is small as well as the lot.   But I was surprised when I saw the prices listed.  I didn’t know that a small two storey house and lot, located in the outskirts of the city could cost so high.  Hmnn.  it makes me think we are lucky to have acquired our modest dwelling on a low cost budget more than two decades ago. Our lot’s measurement although small as it is, is still big as compared to the current lots for sale.

Ours was mortgaged to SSS, payable for twenty-five years but we have fully paid it in a little more than a ten year period.  Thanks to its very affordable monthly amortization.  Normally, amortizations are computed and are supplied by the realtor selling the property.  But through my experience, I had no idea how they got to the amount of our amortization. We just accepted everything as it was. Nowadays, there is a loan calculator one can turn on to if ever we need to confirm a mortgage loan computation.  It helps us know our future mortgage expense. We just have to visit their site. Just that easy.

I Wanna Feel the Bloggin’ Community

April 21, 2008

I remember I started blogging late last year.  My husband pushed me to try and I hesitantly obeyed.  With my zero comprehension on computer (it hurts me to use the right word, computer illiterate!) I was very uncomfortable on my initial encounter with the techy machine.  I had too many questions as I fumbled on the keyboard. I almost gave up.

But Tom, my husband was too patient to give up on me.. Plus the little tutoring from Janina, my daughter, I eventually I found myself doing things on my own.  I have yet to discover more but what I have now is good enough for me to embark on this new found love, blogging.  I have started some blog hopping and leaving messages on every site I visit. I have blog hopped a few times before but I felt awkward to post comments or messages. I was afraid I’d be ignored because of my age, (remember, my two children are already of legal age). But my fear vanish as the bloggers I met were accommodating and friendly despite the age gap we have. They just didn’t know they have helped me find the confidence I ought to have even only a bit as compared to what my husband has.

To top it all, I will be attending the 4th Philip[pine Blogging Summit, along with Tom on Saturday,  the 26th of this month which will be held in the Malcolm Theater, College of Law, U.P. Diliman, Quezon City. Again, it’s because Tom is tagging me along. I am excited though, as it will be another learning experience for me.  See you  there!

Beware!

April 20, 2008

It is quite depressing that there are lots of modus operandi being carried out by many criminal elements around us. Here is one good example. I have just received this email from a friend and I thought of sharing it with all of you so  you too will be forewarned. Here it goes. . .

 Dear Friends:

I know not all of you are women that I am sending this
to, but I am
hoping you will share this with your wives, daughters,
mother,
sisters,
etc. Our world seems to be getting crazier by the day.
Pipe bombs in
mailboxes and sickos in parking lots with perfume. Be
careful.

I was approached yesterday afternoon around 3:30 pm in
a car park by
two males who asked what kind of perfume I was
wearing. Then
they asked if I’d like to sample some fabulous scent
they were willing
to sell me at a very reasonable rate.

I probably would have agreed had I not received an
e-mail some weeks
ago warning of a ‘Wanna smell this neat perfume?’scam.
Someone walks
up to you at the malls or in parking lots and asking
you to SNIFF PERFUME that they are selling at a cheap
price. THIS
IS NOT PERFUME…IT IS ETHER! When you sniff it,
you’ll pass out.
They’ll take your wallet, your valuables and heaven
knows what else.

The men continued to stand between parked cars, I
guess to wait for
someone else to hit on. I stopped a lady going towards
them, pointing
at them and told her about how I was sent an e-mail at
work.

If it were not for this e-mail, I probably would have
sniffed the
‘perfume’ but thanks to the generosity of an e-mailing
friend, I was
spared
whatever might have happened to me. I wanted to do the
same for you.

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO ALL YOUR WOMEN FRIENDS AND
PLEASE BE ALERT AND BE AWARE. IF YOU ARE A MAN AND
RECEIVE THIS, PASS IT ON TO YOUR WIFE/WOMEN FRIEND

So there it is. I, myself have encountered diferrent kinds of criminal’s modus operandi,  I’d probably post some of them just to let you be aware and eventually avoid them in the future.

My Good Friend’s Good Taste

April 16, 2008

A friend invited me to her place last weekend.  I found out that her house has just been remodeled and it has been extended to her front yard.  I feel sad for her garden but she replaced it with an open veranda on the second floor. The house became a lot bigger and the garage turned out to be another play area for her kids sans the cars around.  She took me up to her open veranda and I saw the beautiful outdoor design she has done.  There was a little kind of a bar positioned in one corner designed with a colorful roof.  Not so far from it was a set of chairs created from the natural shape of the trunk and roots of a tree. I noticed the attractive cushions that don the chairs. It gave more life and color to the seemingly dull appearance of the wooden chairs. She proudly told me that those were Sunbrella Outdoor Cushions that she ordered from Cushion.com. It made me curious somehow.

I visited Cushion .com and I learned that it manufactures custom outdoor cushions and custom indoor furniture cushions.  They offer various types of cushions made from the highest quality and most durable materials like Sunbrella fabrics. I admire my friend’s good taste. She really knows what’s best.

Kuya Boy is Gone

April 15, 2008

Kuya Boy, my cousin, has passed away last Thursday, April 10, just less than a month after he was diagnosed of Lung Cancer.    He left behind his wife and four children.. This guy was my buddy since our childhood.  We have shared same circle of friends on our teen years and have had many funny moments together.  It’s quite hard to believe he is gone forever. May he rest in peace as he leaves our temporary place in this world. Goodbye, buddy!

Comfortable Cushions

April 14, 2008

Having a spacious house is one of my dreams. One with a large garden or a patio that has garden sets you can lounge on to is considerably a big part of that dream.  At present, I have only a very little space outside our house (as well as in the inside, for that matter).  Despite the very minimal legroom, I still placed a five piece wrought iron garden set on it. That’s because I am really fond of having an open airy space to hang about. There are a few plants scattered around that area and that’s about it. I find some moment to enjoy just by sitting there and getting a glimpse of my flowering plants nearby. However, I noticed that my garden set is not so relaxing. Since it is wrought iron, I need some cushions to make it a little more comfortable. I appreciate my sister’s recommendation for some Garden Furniture Cushions as she then referred the custom cushion.net.

Custom cushion sells custom outdoor cushion. They have a wide array of style for chair cushion, chaise lounge cushion, seat cushions, bench pads, ottoman cushions and throw pillows. What is likeable in here is their cushion designer customization system. It is simply following some easy steps and one can create custom made cushions. This is great for I can proudly say I made the beautiful cushions myself.  I am pretty sure it will not just be me who’ll enjoy sitting on the garden set. The whole family will be for they will surely love its Garden Furniture Cushion.

Moving Out?

April 12, 2008

We all know that one of the best investments that anybody should acquire is a house.  The better the location of the property, the higher the price, of course.  Maybe that is why there are lots of instances of people moving out of their place and transferring to another, may it be better (just acquiring a superb place) or less good (just sold your superb place and settling to a not so.)  I, myself, would love to acquire a better place too, you know?

If you are one of those who have already concrete plans of moving to a new place, then good for you!  But, even though it is really exciting just having a thought about moving to a new house, it is not really an easy task to transfer appliances, furniture, and other home things to a new location.  Unless you own a large vehicle that can accommodate all your belongings, you will need a help in making your move a successful one.  Need to contact a company that is extremely helpful, utmost careful, and most of all, trust worthy, just like Boston Moving Company.  You would not want to settle for anything that would cost you your most loved belongings, would you?

Taking Good Care of Artworks

I have always been fascinated with artworks.  May it be paintings, sculptures, or other kinds, which have the touch of artistry.  Maybe because I know I am not an artist myself that I get to be captivated by such things.  Also, I have always loved going into museums and galleries (mostly those that are in malls.)

Sometimes, I get to wonder how easy or hard it is to make a simple artwork.  Some of those artists that I have asked told me that it just takes them a day to finish one, as long as they are inspired by something extraordinary.  While some of them told me that it takes them months to create their masterpiece.  “Wow!”  That is just what I have uttered to myself.  Every art must be really valuable because it is an exquisite expression of their selves.  I thought, if each is an exquisite thing, then it must be really valuable (not just talking about the monetary units here, okay?

Here is the thing, I may not be an expert when it comes to artworks, but I know something, and would like to suggest something, that would take good care of the delicate and superb masterpieces.  It is a company that offers an extraordinary service in delivering or storing artworks, in other words, a company that offers Fine Art Storage.  For those artists out there, visit this site.

1800Flowers

Flowers say so many things.  It may almost always mean to say “I love you” but could also mean a simple “I care for you”,   “Congratulations”,   “Happy Anniversary” and many other things you could think of and feel.  Sometimes, it also becomes a fire that melts extremely cold hearts.  It certainly touches the deepest chamber of anyone’s heart; especially the girls’ for flowers are every girl’s weakness.

Mothers Day is celebrated on May.  It will be next month and many loving sons and daughters are thinking of what to give their mothers to let them know how much they love them. What would be best to give that will not command steep price?  Well, I guess a bouquet of flowers is a great gift to give.  It is not a bit of a hassle to send, whether it is a single stem of rose or a two dozen rose from 1800flowers.

I would suggest that you visit this website that offers flowers of any kind, the 1-800-Flowers.com.  Take advantage of their offer of $10.00 discount for every purchase of $49.95 when using the promotion code Martha1 as you check out.  All are elegantly designed by the famous television host, Martha Stewart.

Little Bratty Dog

April 10, 2008

Maybe it’s just about time that I feature our little Shih Tzu dog here on my blog.   First, I named him Jackpot, simply because I got him for a very cheap price.  Don’t ask how much. I will not tell. Then we nicknamed him Potpot. He  turned two last month. Everybody here in the house loves him, even my hubby who was a dog enemy number one before (lol).  They became close because Potpot is like a child always seeking to be cuddled. And he always waits by the door so excitedly every time he hears hubby’s car enter the garage. Guess how Potpot reacted when he didn’t pick him up one time after he patiently and excitedly waited to welcome hubby. He kept a grudge on him and doesn’t welcome him for quite a time..  He just looked at him from afar and evades him totally!  Now when hubby tries to hug him, he moves his face away from him and forces himself free. Hah, he’s that little bratty dog now. (lol) But still,  he’s lovable.

Mortgage Refinance, Anyone?

April 8, 2008

Owning a house is probably the initial projects of most newlyweds, bachelors, heads of family or whoever has a dream of living on their own. It is no doubt exciting to choose and find the right one for you. But owning a house entails quite a number of obstacles though. First and foremost is the financing, which types of loans to take or which lender to get it from.  Do you want to deal directly to a lender or need to get a broker? Alright, let us say that there is no problem with that. You were able to easily acquire mortgage loan for your asset, say a house and lot.  But what, if ever, you were not able to sustain its mortgage dues for the reason of some unforeseen events? It is quite depressing, right?  But no, please don’t be!  There is such thing as mortgage refinance.  Be relaxed and just turn to Mortgage Finders Network.

Mortgage Finders Network specializes in finding mortgage loans not considering your locale.  They would gladly do the heavy toil for a lower mortgage rate now. There are many kinds of loans they offer where you can absolutely benefit from.  You can choose from mortgages, refinancing and home equity. So maybe, it’s about time to follow your dream. If you want to have your own house and lot,  refinance an existing loan or anything about loans, go ahead and need not worry. Mortgage Finders Network is behind you.

Wine Racks

April 3, 2008

On occasions, I drink wine.  I have learned from a magazine article that it is good for the heart.  So when there is an opportunity to find good wines on sale, like when we go on duty free shopping at Subic Freeport, I make sure we bring home a bottle or two.  This is aside from the bottles of whiskey or brandy that my hubby sometimes picks for future gift giving or for an impromptu entertaining. So what is stored in one of our kitchen cabinets?  It’s none other than bottles of wines stocked upright. I know this is not the right way to stock up wine bottles. I have read too, (just lately) that improperly stored wines may lead to spoilage.  That’s one good reason I got to find a good wine rack soon.

As I surf the net, I came across a site that sells various kinds of Wine Racks . They offer high quality wood wine racks, metal wine racks, hanging wine racks and almost any type of wine racks that fits the customers needs.  They also got different wine accessories, wine furniture, wine glasses and lot more. What I like in here is that they guarantee their products 100%.  That means that if in any case the product sent to you was the wrong one or that you are not fully contented with your wine rack, then you can return the product within 15 days of receiving it.  Oh, well.  I think I found what I want. Fantastic!

Lizeth’s Birthday Blow-out

April 2, 2008

Sunday, March 30 was Lizeth’s birthday.  She’s the daughter of Elvie, my younger sis-in-law.  She decided to celebrate her birthday with us in Tagaytay since Mamang, her aussie granny (nah!) has been waiting to be toured around town.

We woke up as early as 4:00am as we had a betting game with Elvie that whoever would be late on our appointed time of 6:00am will pay for the group’s breakfast. And guess who came late?  Well… we stopped by the Mcdo at Petron Slex and had our breakfast. I had to pay coz we were late by six minutes. Ouch!

We reached Tagaytay Picnic Grove at around 8:00am.  Strolled, browsed the souvenir shops and trekked the 500 meter pathway which led us to cross a hanging bridge somewhere.  It was a nice exercise under a warm early morning sun. Our lunch was in a restaurant inside the picnic grove.  We ordered bulalo, sugpo, crispy tawilis and pancit. We rested for a while then climbed up to the Peoples Park.  The sceneries from atop was breath taking. However, the place itself is disgusting.  It is not maintained well and it  stinks.  We just tried to ignore the surroundings and concentrated on the magnificent  sceneries beyond together with the  cool breeze that’s hardly felt in Metro Manila. We left Peoples Park at around 4:00pm and Lizeth proclaimed an extention of her birthday blowout. Yey!  We reached Manila just in time for dinner so we proceeded to our favorite eating place in Roxas Boulevard that is Emerald. This time, it was really, really a sumptuous dinner.  It was the longest birthday blow-out I had so far this year.  It was indeed a wonderful day of celebrating Lizeth’s 20th year on earth and praying for at least 80 more years to come to her.  Thanks, Lizeth!  Everyone enjoyed your birthday. (Including Potpot.)
